![]() ![]() Overall, Namco Bandai has done a great job with this eagerly anticipated sequel. The only major complaint is the high difficulty level compared to other fighting games - but this might be considered a bonus to hard-core players instead of a shortcoming. Finally, this sequel looks great, thanks to high-def models, a variety of countries to fight in, and real-time weather effects. Secondly, there are many different modes to try out, offering a lot of gameplay choose between solo or tag-team matches, offline and online play. The game feels good, too, with tight and responsive controls. It might be a bit intimidating at first (be sure to spend some time in the Fight Lab for training purposes) because this is not the kind of game you can "button mash" through. For one, the game offers a very deep combat system that gives you complete control over your fighter's moves, combos, and acrobatics. It's the first of its kind in the fighting game genre and should become a standard for all fighting games from here on out.Whether you're a seasoned Tekken fan or new to the franchise, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 gets it mostly right - for a few reasons. You can actually keep track of your own development as a player this way by seeing how you take and deal damage. This game also has every character ending from the original games up to the release date of Tekken Tag Torunament 2. Sure, it tracks your win/loss record and keeps track of your place on the online leaderboards, but it also tracks particulars like average combo damage. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is for me my favourite Tekken with a huge roster of fighter from the series history and an amazing selection of game modes, such as ARCADE, VS, SURVIVAL, TEAM BATTLE, ENDLESS etc. WTF (I see what they did there) tracks just about every statistic you could possibly want to be tracked. However, the biggest online innovation that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 has to offer is the World Tekken Federation. It's a big step above Tekken 6, whose three-bar matches were sometimes better than its four-bar matches. While sometimes I had problems finding a match or would come across unfortunate lag spikes in random matches, most of the matches I encountered were playable and easy to get into. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 has also made serious strides forward in online play. ![]() The game seems pretty balanced between single and tag play, though pro communities tend to gravitate toward teams more than solos. Single characters have more health and do slightly more damage, but lose all the tag options the game has to offer. The biggest change is the ability to play as a single character rather than a two-person team. ![]() You can also spend it to safely tag in if you are in danger. Rage is still there, and you still gain it if the opponent hits you with certain tag combos. As far as the actual game system goes, it's pretty much still Tekken 6 with a tag button. Of course, the real meat and potatoes of any fighting game is versus play. For example, every male in my game can don either a trench coat or a thong. You can also customize the appearance of every other character in the game as well, decking them out in the right costume to suit your personal tastes.
